These two photos show the depth of the mound in Area A, with the lighter material clearly showing the original ground surface showing through.

 

 

Area D, despite the water, has been excavated to a greater depth.  Finds of larger pieces of wood, some looking like split and worked timber, along with the emerging shape of the cut area, all give rise to the hope that this could be the trough and possibly wood-lined.
